Gourmet Magazine, October 1974 Cover Picture - Dresses & AppetizersIn October 2009, stuffing lovers daydreamed about thanksgiving recipes, responsible Samaritans were holiday shopping, and Gourmet magazine was distributing their November issue, which happened to be their last.

Or so we thought.

Fast forward a food year and we now have Gourmet Live, an online app filled with Gourmet magazine’s videos, recipes and articles, and Gourmet Quick Kitchen, a special edition of Gourmet magazine with 81 pages of quick, beautiful and easy recipes. Friends, if this isn’t a reason to shriek with joy I don’t know what is. In honor of Gourmet magazine’s future, let’s celebrate with Gourmet ‘s past.

While you were playing hopscotch, running for the ice cream truck, protesting and tree hugging, Gourmet magazine was making silver dollar pancakes with bacon twists, Indian fried bread, and rustic sausage puffs famous. And selling it for seventy-five cents. Go back in time with this Vintage Gourmet Magazine Picture Show, circa 1974, and tell me which gourmet classic you crave.

    The clam pasta with peppercorns has my vote. This is tremendous! I tried to download the Gourmet Live app but had some trouble. Great way to go back in time.

    It’s so interesting to notice the differences that magazines have now as compared to back then. Quality. That’s what immediately jumps out to me.

    I can’t judge quality of paper, etc. but text, pictures, layout look very elegant. What about content wise? Would you say the old stuff’s better? What do you notice when you read them?

    Also, I really like the Lime Sorbet! That gets my vote!
